Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band
The oldest pipe band in the BC Interior
Marking 90 years in 2009

With about one piper per thousand population, the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada has one of the highest incidences of highland musicians in North America. Each town with a population over six thousand or so has a pipe band.

The public sees the great highland bagpipe as an instrument of ceremonial occasions: parades, funerals, memorials, and weddings; the music variously as martial or sad. Yet, the piper’s repertoire is far broader, encompassing reels, strathspeys, hornpipes, jigs, and aires, most composed specifically for the pipes.

The Kilties perform throughout the Kootenay region
